Ice hockey [21 Nov 2009|01:22pm]

Me and Ipe at speakers' corner in Hyde Park, as screaming (and, on my part, occasionally laughing) ice-hockey fans. Me to the left, Ipe to the right. Ipe's visiting house guest Saara sat inside a massive cardboard box made to resemble a TV and filmed us through a hole in the box. In the background you can see some of the people from our performance elective.

Smile [20 Nov 2009|09:21pm]
[ music | Francoise Hardy - La maison où j'ai grandi ]

Möbius syndrome: a rare face-paralyzing condition which makes it impossible for its sufferers to make facial expressions. I can't remember the name of this kid, but a documentary was made about her, and at age 5 she had jaw surgery so that she could smile.

I drew the photo of the girl's blank pre-op face from a picture in a book, and made my dear coursemate Nadia do the fake-smile pose. This picture is from a series of 5.

Drawn on A2 black paper with markers and color pencils.

Dinner Party [17 Nov 2009|02:29pm]
[ music | Aretha Franklin - Drown in my own tears ]

Another assignment for my performance elective, where the brief was to make The Best Film Ever. WELL I DID, and it's not even 2 minutes long.

Footage from Ipe's (a.k.a. the perverted camera man behind Bird) dinner party two weeks ago, edited in Windows Movie Maker, and the animated frames where (blatantly) drawn by mouse in Photoshop.

Music by lovely crazy artist Kevin Blechdom. The intro is from the song I Am Nastay, the outro from Use Your Heart As a Telephone and Interspecies Love.

Five (2008) [13 Nov 2009|10:41pm]
[ music | The Hollies - He ain't heavy, he's my brother ]

I made this during my first month in London last year. The child in the front is my dad at age 5, and the crazy thing in the back was a character I'd started drawing all over my sketchbooks ever since I left Sweden that autumn (you can see the original here).

At the time, I didn't reflect on why I was drawing it, but now, I look at it and I see a self-portrait. I felt pressure from every imaginable direction; more than seemed reasonable for just one person to deal with.

Media: markers, goauche, and colored paper on white cardboard.

Benjamin [03 Nov 2009|07:03pm]
[ music | Flight of the Conchords - Fashion is danger ]

Benjamin Walfridson, superstar Swedish male model. Markers, goauche, and color pencils on black paper. Made mainly because I was avoiding coursework. Which I'm now going to do. Right. Seeya.

Family portrait [30 Oct 2009|10:31pm]
[ music | Röyksopp ft. Robyn - The girl and the robot ]

Another portrait commission, yay! The commissioner wanted a family portrait for her parents' wedding anniversary. This is the first group picture I've ever made. Materials: Markers, color pencils and goauche on colored paper. Size: Something like 50cm wide? I'd sent the picture off by the time I realised I should have measured it.

Still taking commissions!

Bird [30 Oct 2009|06:05am]
[ music | the boiler ]

This was a school assignment: to do a film where we turn into an animal.

While I was at my friend Ipe's housewarming party last weekend, I decided I was going to do my film right then and there.

I persuaded Ipe to be in charge of the camera. She decided to mostly film my breasts instead. But if you pay close attention you'll also notice me rolling a piece of red material into a beak and waving my arms amidst the other guests at the party.

Rejected roughs [16 Oct 2009|10:09pm]
[ music | FlashForward ]

I emailed Dazed & Confused asking if they needed an illustration of anything, and they replied saying they wanted a canine version of Snoop Dogg for an upcoming interview. After I sent these roughs, they decided to go into another, Miriam-less direction.

Colored-in flu germs! Yay! [15 Oct 2009|08:24pm]

I'm going to sort these after the age of their colorists, because then it kind of looks like I'm presenting the very evolution of coloring, haha.

So first up, my 3-year-old niece Ester and my 5-year-old nephew Emil. My brother (whose wedding you can find illustrated here) emailed me saying:

"Hello sister!

I put the kids to work one afternoon. This is the result. They used markers, and Emil also used a crayon for one of the germs. I colored in one guy on each paper, and I wrote 'STER' on Ester's. Emil worked two afternoons on his and wanted to do more, but settled for what he'd done after I told him I was only going to scan and that he'd get the drawing back afterwards.

/Thomas"

And last but not least, 22-year-old Catherine Soto, who thought the fat germ in the middle was too cute to color in:

You can still download and color in flu germs by clicking here.

[ music | Kevin Blechdom - Binaca ]

Here you can download the printable version. It's supposed to be A4 in size. Please blog or comment with your colored-in versions! I'd love to see them.

(In other news,

!)

Edited to add, Oct 31: I am now updating the download link continuously, as it expires every 7 days.
